Icelandic Sheep
Icelandic sheep are one of the world’s oldest and purest breeds of sheep, descended from animals brought to Iceland by Viking settlers more than 1,000 years ago. Hardy, adaptable, and naturally suited to northern climates, they are a true triple-purpose breed, traditionally valued for their flavorful meat, distinctive dual-coated wool, and milk.
Centuries of relative isolation in Iceland have helped preserve the breed with little influence from other sheep populations. Today, Icelandic sheep are considered an important heritage breed, representing the resilience, self-sufficiency, and traditional farming practices we strive to preserve at Hebb Heritage Homestead.
Berkshire x Idaho Pasture Pig (IPP)
At Hebb Heritage Homestead, we raise a thoughtfully selected cross of Berkshire and Idaho Pasture Pig, combining two breeds known for exceptional pork quality and their ability to thrive in pasture-based farming systems.
The Berkshire is one of the oldest recognized pig breeds, originating in England and prized for centuries for its richly flavored, beautifully marbled pork. The Idaho Pasture Pig is a newer American breed developed specifically to flourish on pasture, known for its gentle temperament, grazing ability, and smaller, more manageable frame.
Together, these breeds produce a hardy, docile pasture pig with excellent meat quality and natural foraging ability. Our pigs are raised with access to the outdoors and room to root, graze, and express their natural behaviors—reflecting our commitment to humane husbandry, traditional farming, and thoughtfully raised pork.
Bourbon Red and Narragansett Turkeys
Bourbon Red and Narragansett turkeys are time-honored American heritage breeds, raised on family farms like Hebb Heritage Homestead long before the modern commercial turkey. Hardy and naturally suited to life on pasture, these birds are allowed to grow slowly, forage, and develop as nature intended. The result is tender, richly flavored meat with a beautiful balance of breast and dark meat — the kind of turkey that once graced traditional New England farm tables. By raising these historic breeds, we honor old farming traditions while helping preserve them for generations to come.
